PCLinuxOnline is reporting that Keith Parkard wants to fork the XFree86 effort and has subsequently been removed from the XFree86 core team. The issue in general. and if GNOME should send out a statement supporting Keith, is currently being discussed by various GNOME community members on the GNOME Foundation mailing list. The issue is also being discussed on slashdot.

Re: XFree86 Politics & Keith Packard

Ya know, I find it amusing that Mike Harris mentioned that one of the bigger flaws that XFree86 on bug reporting is no Bugzilla. Yet after the bit got posted on Slashdot, I went to XFree86 and find that they set up a Bugzilla two days prior to the posting. The way I see it for XFree86 right now, too little too late.

XFree86 needs some major reorganization with the way things are handled in terms of bugs, CVS commit access, and patch submissions. If Keith can make improvements that's beyond XFree86's current ability, then I rather use KP's version instead.
