Mark Finlay passes away

GNOME

Mark Finlay passed away peacefully at home on Friday 9th January 2004.
Mark was the driving force behind the creation of the GNOME Users Board, where he helped numerous people learn to use GNOME. He was also a contributor to Rhythmbox, Gossip and numerous other GNOME projects. To quote Jeff Waugh "Mark Finlay was young, eager, furiously energetic and just heading into university - where I'm sure he would have blossomed into a great GNOME and Free Software hacker."

Re: Mark Finlay passes away

I only know the guy from his posts but I'm so sad to hear this news. His diary entry 23 December:

"Have spends since last saturday in hospital when I keeled over at radiotherephy :/ I really was too hard on myself this term at University. Came close to top of the year in everything, but I've been really unwell for the last month so it porbably was a bit much. Am gonna take things way easier in the new year."

Ouch. My father died of cancer last month. The degradation to the human body when it's going through chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy is just abysmal. Poor Mark seems to have been suffering with fortitude.

I hadn't read his blog before so I didn't realise his condition.

What a tragedy. Strength and love to his family. If you know his family, your support would be appreciated. Sending cards/flowers is a really thoughtful idea that helps. (It reinforces the fact that the person who has passed was cherished by many and will be sorely missed)

Cheers
