totally agree with you. i faced the same problems and now, after switching to kde two weeks ago find it a great and viable solution. why? clean interface, fast filemanager it adapts to the way i work, and i dont need to adapt to the way kde works while doing my stuff. i had to spend zero time configurating something gconf-like or even text files. the only bad thing maybe is that this or that app takes longer to load, but in the end the screen redraw and interface also seems much faster. only thing i use gtk for at the moment is gimp, sodipodi, evolution and abiword. the rest, was easily dumped. and by the way i use konqueror for web browsing more often than firefox...

lean mean fast i'd say.
