The Case for Gconf

Firebird has an embedded mode which is wickedly good. It can build itself as a single library... to give a small client database system with all the RDBMS features (only not quite as scalable, obviously)... which can also transparently switch to using a full Firebird installation if present. It's great, and I'm surprised it doesn't get more attention, given that it is better/faster/more scalable than sqlite, with the same advantages of being easy to install and no maintainance.
