Gnumeric 1.3.92 aka Release Candidate 1

Gnumeric
Gnumeric

Gnumeric 1.3.92 aka "Release Candidate 1" is now available.

With this release we have gone through lots of old bug reports and fixed
a large number of little things that should make Gnumeric a more polished
application.

People with broken printer configurations -- you know who you are -- will
take delight in the delayed initialization of Gnome Print. A broken CUPS
configuration will no longer cause a hang on startup.

Work is underway to make a Win32 binary. Since there are a number
of problems left with the current build of it -- such as display problems
beyond row 1400 -- we are still holding it back. More later.

screenshots ?

are there any screenshots showing off the new features ?

I think that open source software needs a bit more marketing: interview the coders, write some tutorials etc. And of course show a lot of screenshots! This really helps. When I talk to people about free software and open source, most of the time they keep asking me: what does it look like ? Sure, I give them a Knoppix-CD and let them play, but often some screenshots showing off some cool features are just enough. They get motivated and start searching around for themselfs.

OK, a bit off topic here, but I had to say this.

On topic: I'm really looking forward to the new gnumeric release!
Keep up the great work guys!

Problems with margins in printing

I have installed Gnumeric in office machines, but people doesn't work with it because of problems with saving printing configuration and format getting crazy when you adjust printing margins.

Is new version of Gnumeric fixed in that respect? My people is using now Openoffice to avoiding that problem, but I'd like they used Gnumeric instead. It has more options and functions and it is more lightweight. A very good tool :)

Thanks for all good work in Gnumeric.

It should be alot better

1.3.92 delays print setup and gives the margins a more comfortable lifecycle. There are still some issues with changing printers.

Conditional formatting?

While we're whining about features...

Is "conditional formatting" on the schedule?

Thanks!

Gnumeric is a great product, and I use it often in my business.

Not for 1.4

This is one of those features that is actually simple for us to implement, but hard to edit. What we really need here is input from the usability team. Getting a reasonable interface to conditional or calculated formats is non-trivial, and we need some help.

text orientation and intra cell text formatting?

I ask every time so I'll ask again... What is the status of cell text formatting? Especially text orientation but also including: italics for part of the cell contents, colors, bold, font size, for parts of the cell text?

Thanks. I hate to sound like I only complain about gnumeric but the reason I ask is because I really like gnumeric, think it is a fantastic app, but currently cannot use it at my work because of the lack of formatting options.

Thanks.

rich text is supported, text orientation soon

We've had rich text support (including xls import export) for a while now. 1.3.92 fixes a few irritations when editing, and can finally persist it to/from .gnumeric files. As far as I am concered this feature is complete. If there are problems/limitations please file something in bugzilla.

Rotated text will be supported now that pango-1.6 supports it. We did not add it for this release because pango-1.6 is too new.

Jody

Yep, you complain every singl by Anonymous George

What's new for average users ?

apt-cache policy gnumeric
gnumeric:
Installés : 1.2.13-1ubuntu2

So what can expect users like me from the upgrade ?

Re: What's new for average users ?

You can expect to have the new version in Sarge+1. That's about three years from now ;-)

Win32

Hows the top secret win32 port going btw?

Win32 ? Who cares?
