Unable to Connect to MSN

I am running Gaim 1.0.3 on Windows XP and am able to use it for AIM, but when I try to connect to msn it simply says "unable to connect to server" This has been frustrating me for sometime. Can anyone help me out?

Unable to connect to Yahoo

Use your Yahoo Account ONLY don't add @yahoo.com and it will work.

Good luck

Evolution Integration

So when does this stuff begin to happen? Are the Gaim developers fighting the progress?

It's already there

It is just a plugin that has to be enabled. It works quite well :P

Which is exactly the problem:

Which is exactly the problem: it has to be manually enabled!

popups

Hopefully they'll get rid of those popups one day... like when it has to reconnect; jabber messages that popup despite use of systray; user has added you popup; away popup and all the other "the gaim application is bored, please entertain it"-popups. Can't wait until I can actually leave it running while I don't want to be disturbed.

Ok, I realize this post qualifies as troll-post. I just can't help it.

agreed

It's nice to be notified of what's going on and all, but you're right; gaim really does need to be babysat. Hopefully this will result as a product of this rumoured "core-ui-split".

ui-cleanup

nice program, but some user-interface cleanup is really what gaim needs now.

for instance, preferences window for such a simple program as instant messenger is total mess now...

done in 2.0

The word is already being done for 2.0, which is the development branch...

Development branch?

Where can I find that? The CVS doesn't seem to be of different branch, just the state of Gaim between the releases.

Sorry

I was wrong- the CVS is of version 2 of Gaim. It's nice to use, although it has a few noticeable bugs.

LibGAIM

I can't wait for libgaim to be ready. I don't like Gaim's interface, and I hope that using libgaim, people will be able to easily recreate a new, simpler interface that has Gaim's features.

New interfaces using libGaim

New interfaces using libGaim have been out for a while now. Take a look at Adium on OSX, for example.

Yeah, but...

AFAIK, there's non for the x86-linux platform.

File sharing plug-in bounty for GAIM

Cribbed from Slashdot:

Downhillbattle.org has offered a bounty for a GAIM plugin for P2P file sharing.

MSN

I have a few issues with MSN, but stuff that is difficult to diagnose. At least, the issues are already logged on the Gaim bug tracker, but not really being looked at. I have to say, Gaim is an excellent application, and if only MSN worked flawlessly then it would be simply perfect for my needs. /gaim fanboy.

msn

what issues?

Unable to send any form of file on both Windows and Linux.

I'm using Ubuntu 1.0.0 version of Gaim.

I've only just noticed this, as I tried to send some files to a friend of mine, during a conversation, this was on MSN, but it has also errored on jabber as well.
It tried to send the file, then just sits there after I attatch it and then click send, no indication of the file even attempting to be sent, you have to stop the transfer or it will just site there for hours.

I've even tried this with a 1kb file, in case it was a size limitation error.

Also my wife never shows up as being online with MSN, as we only use Linux at home, we set up the accounts via msn's web interface, but all other users who are in my buddy list use windows and they always show up as being online, this happens for both of us ( I know she is online as she is sat right next to me ;) and she is chating to another friend who is using MSN on windows as we speak).

Rather than rant here, I should probaly send a bug report in.

The disconnected from Switchboard error message ?

This is a constant with GAIM using MSN, which I have had since the 0.8 releases. I don't know exactly what causes it, and I know MSN network isn't perfect.

Essentially, the 'Switchboard error' means your message doesn't get sent. It's a bounce-back error message.
I get it from time to time in the official client, but only if the MSN servers are having maintenace work done. GAIM does it on a regular basis.

Strangely, the MSN preferences and the extended preferences don't stop this popup error dialogue. It would be nice if this error was indicated in the message window itself, stating "Your message could not be sent. Check your network settings" or something similar to what the official client says.

I have had friends comment on this, and who won't use GAIM because of this bug.
