Free and open source software is often criticised for being less usable than its commercial equivalent. Good user interface design isn't some magical thing that FOSS developers can't do for themselves, however. Benjamin Roe has written a short article describing five key points of good interface design that any developer can use in their projects. Why should former Photoshop users not be interested in a well-designed user interface?

Don't know the parent, but I do distrust the former Photoshop users, at least the Photoshop for Windows user - since those are feticistically attached to the horrible Photoshop for W. UI - see their obsession with multiple document interfaces (MDI) windows.

I heard that Photoshop for Mac has a UI similar to GIMP: its users are most likely the least to complain.
