Version bumping by Anonymous George

The version change wasn't to

The version change wasn't to indicate it was stable at all, it was to transition to the new versioning scheme.

(In this case it means they've made small changes to the plugin API.)

The jump to 1.1.0 just indica

The jump to 1.1.0 just indicated that they're just following their version numbering policy. From their FAQ:

Q. What will the next version be?
A. Starting with version 1.0.0, Gaim version numbers have 3 parts to them. The format is major.minor.micro. If we change something internally in Gaim such that some plugins won't work with the newer version, we will increment the major version number. If we don't increment the major version number, and we've added things to the Gaim API that won't break any older stuff, we will increment the minor version number. In any other cases, we will increment the micro version number. Even and odd numbers have nothing to do with stability, and you should always be running the latest release of Gaim to get new features and bug fixes.

There was a jump from 0.82.1 to 1.0.0, but that was when they decided on this policy to help people know at a glance how significant the changes are.

By the way, given the inclusion of several new features (as opposed to just bug fixes), what version would you expect after 1.0.x? It's a newer version of the program. To me it makes sense that they would increment the version number.

The Reason

If you look in the plugins/Changlog.API there is some new stuffs. That's why the minor was bumped. Its mainly for devels, as I understand it.

Webcam and b00ter (lame)

When webcam support will be included in gaim?

Many stupid lame-people use b00ter program on yahoo chat... and gaim go down in every attack (differently from original yahoo messenger). Is there a solution in the future for gaim?

yeah we seriosuly need some w

What about GnomeMeeting ?

What about GnomeMeeting ?

Several patches were proposed

Several patches were proposed to integrate with gnomemeeting, but they didn't care and rejected them.

Re: Webcam and b00ter (lame)

gaim-vv is a fork of gaim with added Video and Voice. I have not tried this yet, so please comment if you have, but I do agree I would love to see MSNM Video and Voice protocals included within gaim.

just so happens i tried it on

just so happens i tried it on windows a few days ago, worked with yahoo on other end :-) seemed a little buggy, but video was fine. i was also thinking why wouldnt people use vv instead, worked for me ;-) i couldnt figure out how to initiate video chat though, might be cause i dont have cam :-/

Developers

You realize that there are several proper Gaim developers who are also developers on gaim-vv, right? The idea is to eventually merge the two trees.

i understand that, but my poi

i understand that, but my point was why wait when its here now ;-)

Because it's versions behind

gaim-vv is versions behind, right? Last time I checked it was at gaim version 0.77. That's a great loss in some of the new features.
