The GNOME 2.10 splash screen contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who submitted entries. In just a few days, we gathered more than 220 entries - a tribute to the popularity and success of GNOME. There were many high quality entries which made choosing a final splash screen very difficult. However, a decision had to be made, so, the splash screen chosen is.... here.

Splash screens are important for Gnome and KDE

A splash is important for Gnome!

Most novice people don't know what Gnome really is. Is Gnome the window manager or is it the theme?

With a splash people have atleast a change to see what Gnome is. I.e. what programs are started.

It is not easy to explain what Gnome really is to someone that don't know it.

I fear that Gnome will more or less disapear if there is one clear sign, that Gnome is now started. Why hide to the user what's going on?

And why not honor the developers of Gnome, so atleast people can see that there actually are some pretty hard working folks behind this wired thing called Gnome that is about to be started.
