GNOME - Future ideas

GNOME
GNOME

I've created an article with mockups and ideas for things that I'd like to see GNOME 3.* doing in the future.
The article can be seen here, with more ideas and things available through my blog, such as the Scoop proposal, and a mockup of how to make drag and drop far easier with spatial nautilus.

I really love your fresh idea

I really love your fresh ideas that will make a little more different than just another (more or less) Windows-alike desktop.

Especially the hyperbolic view would be great. You can even extend it: If the mouse pointer reaches the screen edges, the "viewport" will change and the apps, which were residing on the edges before, will be shown in full size. WITHOUT the need to reposition or resize the application windows at all. Just like the view on a globe: When you want to see another continent, you don't push the old continents away, but turn the globe.

And the circular menus are very nice eye-candy. Especially for "simpler" applications, with just half a dozen menu entries, they would be far more intuitive to control.

The "autofile" feature is pretty cool, too. The only problem is, that it strongly depends on accurate metadata, and I believe this to be a big problem. Any single typo (or even think of bad data by purpose) will break it.

But thank you very much for bringing your interesting stuff into discussion. Gnome certainly lacks on "cool" features, which attract the users. A rock solid base architecture is definitly important, no question. But without attractive features, Gnome will stay too boring for many ppl.
