GNOME - Future ideas

GNOME
GNOME

I've created an article with mockups and ideas for things that I'd like to see GNOME 3.* doing in the future.
The article can be seen here, with more ideas and things available through my blog, such as the Scoop proposal, and a mockup of how to make drag and drop far easier with spatial nautilus.

Circular menus

If you're going to do circular menus, check out how they're done in the easyGestures Firefox extension. They've got descriptions that stretch out from the icons in a way that actually makes sense. I've always liked the idea of circular menus, but until easyGestures, I never saw one that was practical. The menus in easyGestures look nice too -- almost as nice as yours.

Be sure to check out all the options as well. I like having the menu on the middle mouse button, but not activating it unless I also move the mouse. That way I can click the middle mouse button for one action, but also activate the pie menu with it. You can also choose how many actions to place in a single menu, and which items to place where. You can also have additional menus by clicking on a second mouse button after you've activated the menu, or by choosing one of the directions.
