Foresight Desktop Linux, now cooler looking!

GNOME
GNOME

Foresight Desktop Linux is a distribution which showcases some of the latest and greatest from GNOME. With a great focus on usability, yet still up to date. Some of the more innovative things are included, like mono, beagle, f-spot, howl, hal, and oversite systems management. All of this plus some nice, clean default themes and artwork. FDL 0.8 includes many updates to existing packages, great hardware detection using hal/udev/gnome-volume-manager, and a new bootsplash. Check out some screenshots.

For a current list of included packages and versions, check out the package list.

Our team has spent a great deal of time packaging some very cool games, not all of which are included in the distro but easily installed from the conary repository. Check it out, you will like it!

I'm jaded

It seems I'm jaded these days. That looks like a pretty stanadard Gnome look and feel to me....

On an only slightly related note, I find it interesting that there's always someone saying that they're going to improve on the desktop metaphor, and yet the biggest, widely accepted change I've seen to that metaphor in the last 20 years is the addition of multiple desktops.

I suspect that this is just because the desktop works well for most people.

OOo and KDE are available

OpenOffice.org is in the conary repository, so it can be installed with one simple command:

sudo conary update openoffice.org

Same goes for KDE. Foresight is a GNOME distro, but there are many other packages available in the repository.

You win!

You win! I'll just pack up my gentoo and go home.

Seriously, some sweet stuff. The admin privileges prompt is just playing catch up with other DE's, but I seriously like the more professional looking screen lock prompt

Many differences

There are many difference between Foresight and Ubuntu. The biggest difference is Conary, which is really a great way to deal with package management. But also many things just work that ubuntu/debian users struggle with. Like mono apps, beagle, and f-spot work great... right out of the box. On your first login, you can launch best (Beagle's gui) and do a search. It is already running. No fiddling around... just works.

My moot with Ubuntu (even tho

My moot with Ubuntu (even though it's my primary desktop) is the totally destruction of all things printing in 5.04. Does printing work right out of the box in Foresight?
