GNOME 2.10 LiveCD passes 50,000 downloads!

Gnome 2.x
Gnome 2.x

The GNOME 2.10 liveCD has surpassed 50,000 downloads! The liveCD project was created to make it easy to sample GNOME 2.10 immediately without waiting for distros, and has succeeded, pretty spectacularly for something that wasn't really quite mastered until the night before the release :) Some planning for the 2.12 release has already started- goals for the next release are to have more involvement from other people, more documents and media to show off, better mono integration, and easier mastering into more languages.

It isn't too late to download it yourself, show it to friends, or to reach more ambitious goals. The Greek GNOME Translation team made up their own Greek 2.10 LiveCD and distributed it at a conference. If you're interested in doing something similar with the 2.10 liveCD for your conference or language, or want to get involved in the planning for 2.12, drop the marketing-list (marketing-list@gnome.org) an email- the marketing team and the Foundation would love to help you help promote GNOME.

I want a live-CD with Luminocity!

I want a live-CD with Luminocity! :)

Is such thing already available?
Or perhaps another 3D-accelerated Desktop (xgl?)?

But what's the difference between this and gnoppix?

Gnoppix is also a "GNOME live CD", and also based on Ubuntu.

Are we reinventing the wheels?

GNOME CD is a move in the right direction

Hopefully (Hopefully) this will grow into something bigger such as a fully integrated operating system where GNOME is more than just a "GNOME Desktop" running on top of X and Linux kernel.

GNOME Operating System anyone?

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is very much the 'GNOME OS' I was dreaming of way back when the idea of gnome-os (see mail.gnome.org) first surfaced. :-)

Ubuntu

I fear that using Ubuntu won't work with aimed objective: presenting GNOME. This Live CD only presents Ubuntu's version of GNOME. This is because Ubuntu applies many patches to sources from ftp.gnome.org, which produces not vanilla GNOME :(
