Nokia Makes Donation to GNOME Foundation

STUTTGART, Germany –May 31, 2005 – Nokia, which recently launched the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, announced today a developer device program at the GNOME user and Developer European Conference (GUADEC). The developer device program will donate the proceeds from the sales of 500 Nokia 770 devices to the GNOME Foundation.

"Pecunia non olet" as the anc

"Pecunia non olet" as the ancient Romans said, but in my opinion it's just a marketing trick. Open Source is something cool nowadays and Nokia wants to use it for its own purposes. Nokia probably wants people to associate Gnome with their 770s and vice versa. Some guy will think "I like open source and that's why I'll by Nokia instead of Siemens or Sony". On the other hand, Nokia could have given no money to Gnome. So let's be happy with what we have:)
