libnotify in GNOME Applets

A notification as such is not a bad idea. But the shown applets shouldn't create notifications. The primary question is: What are notifications for?

Answer: To communicate critical information to the user. For instance your battery is failing. Or you are low on memory. But the weather or the trash state are not very important at all.

The trash will change every time I delete a file. I known then, that I have deleted a file and must not be notified about that fact. Also the weather update is not important at all, if it isn't a storm warning, which normally isn't.

Another thing is, the location of those notifications.

Because we all know, most of them are useless, we place them in a corner, so they can disturb the user, hide some information behind them, but in a real emergency they are too far out of the way to be recognized correctly.

The best place for REAL warnings is the center of the screen (HIG) where else? And only warnings and errors should be displayed there.
No nifty, it would be nice, look windows has such service too.

I know, most people get irritated by this windows feature. And this is an absolute look-a-like. in the end this notification thing is used to notify me, that new mail has arrived.

To inform me about this fact is (normally) the job of a small mail applet. Well I removed mine, because it is good enough to look in your mailbox a couple of times per day (spare time). Also a mild tune would suffice if there are not too many mails. n the later case no popup, notify, applet or tune thing would da any good at all.

So this is a nice but not very usefull feature.
