For extra excitement this time, you'll need cairo from cvs, or the snapshot
available here:

This is less than ideal, but at least it allows us to test GNOME tarballs
that require it. Cairo 0.6.0 is expected very soon.

TESTING! TESTING! TESTING!
--------------------------

This release is a feature frozen snapshot primarily intended for wide public
scrutiny before the final GNOME 2.12 release in September. GNOME uses odd minor
version numbers to indicate development status. Please check the 2.11 page
for more info:

Happy testing!

...not usable??? ...Athlon 600???

My every day work is well accomplished with Gnome even if I have a "slow" PIII 450 Katmai and yes, 512 Mb of RAM. Oh well, I can't forget my wonderful UI that's quite different from the standard one. Do you figure out how Vista or somewhat else "Long(half-lenght)horn", could perform on my system? Finally, why not, do U want a feature rich desktop environment organized in a WindowsVista-flavour? Wait for KDE 4. I surely prefer the gnome way, and don't forget that's the Mac way too: "Keep it usable and simple, mask your technologies"
Sorry for my poor english, bye
