For extra excitement this time, you'll need cairo from cvs, or the snapshot
available here:

This is less than ideal, but at least it allows us to test GNOME tarballs
that require it. Cairo 0.6.0 is expected very soon.

TESTING! TESTING! TESTING!
--------------------------

This release is a feature frozen snapshot primarily intended for wide public
scrutiny before the final GNOME 2.12 release in September. GNOME uses odd minor
version numbers to indicate development status. Please check the 2.11 page
for more info:

Happy testing!

I posted the original comparison

and I must say I agree with almost all your points, perhaps with the exception of the dropdown list not being aligned with Pictures - I see no reason why it should be.

There is obviously a lot of mess on the vista screenshot, and I personally think the interface is significantly worse than gnome's. I was just comparing the two path bars, nothing else. I found it interesting that MS is finally introducing the path bar, after everybody else used them in some place or another, and I think that their little improvement (the drop down menus with subdirectories) could be pretty useful. I didn't realize it is going to turn into a pointles argument about who has bigger d^W^W ehm... better user interface.
