Overview of Changes in Rhythmbox 0.9.0

The changes are too numerous to list here, but the main focuses have been on stability and memory usage. So your Rhythmbox should be even more stable, and less resource hungry.

Rhythmbox has moved its development tree back to GNOME's CVS servers, which means it's easier to get a hold of it for people who want to live on the cutting-edge. It also means that development has picked up again (the last release was nearly 10 months ago), and that new features will be coming thick and fast!

The truth about rhythmbox

The truth is that, there is NO REAL DEVELOPMENT going on, just a few fixes here and there, removing libxine support because nobody cares about it.. (Yeah, like GStreamer is able to stream in a song without lag).. Only very bad CD BURNING support was added, (which is really hard to find in the menus), The UI is very very old, uses GLADE (Glade for such a simple UI?), the dialogs are very unpolished, icons are missing, Import File, and Import Folders cant select multiple folders/files.

There have been MANY, MANY, Maybe TEN Album Art support patches, but they havent accepted them.. There is no plugin architechture..

You guys should really take a look at http://amarok.kde.org , just look at the screenshots, or even try the package... it has a gstreamer engine.

Rhythmbox is really lagging, the developers are no help at all (Try asking something in IRC..freenode #rhythmbox).

Why is this the music management app in GNOME, because its the only one in C, but come on, its really just a simple UI that bacbkends to the powerful Gstreamer.. which in 0.9 is going to improve.

They took months to release this, and no real features, the Tagging support sucks, its experimental, you have to enable it at configure, and the UI for it is horrible, no real notification that it failed to write to a file, multiple tagging support is horrible too.

Also, RB crashes a lot and is extremely buggy with GS backbend, there is no SQLite backbend by default, or Mysql like Amarok.. Try loading aa few files... ITS HORRIBLE SLOW...

Besides, its full of bugs that nobody fixes, it saves the playlist on close, so it it crashes, you loose all your play count, etc..

Just showing the OTHER FACE of rhythmbox, and why it needs a replacement.

Also it seems that Bastien Nocera really does work for totem.. no real work in RB.
