Released on schedule, to the day, it is the culmination of six months effort
by GNOME contributors around the world: hackers, documentors, usability and
accessibility specialists, translators, maintainers, sysadmins, companies,
artists, users and testers. Due to their hard work, we have another great
release to be proud of - thanks very much to every contributor!

Meanwhile, GNOME developers around the world are looking forward to working
on fresh new features for the next version of GNOME, due in March, 2006.

it's time to lay those tired old default icons to rest!

Gnome badly needs better icons. that little hansel and gretel cartoon house for ~/ is awfully old and looks horribly out of place. none of the gnome users i know actually like this icon.

that bricklayers tool for development in the menu is simply bizarre and the typewriter signifying office applications is self-depreciatingly retro. all the icons have poor dull colours and are blurry in parts.

the rest of the desktop environment is solid and contemporary. the default icons however are close to 6 years old.. come on guys, just choose from one of the rich, clean and polished icon sets on art.gnome.org!
