There has been discussion lately on the GNOME marketing list about coming up with a new motto or slogan that represents GNOME and the GNOME project. Time to brainstorm.

The definition of gnome

Maybe one should check definitions of the word "gnome"
According to the Oxford Dictionary:
gnome - noun a legendary dwarfish creature supposed to guard the earth’s treasures underground

and maybe some motto having to do with this would be
"Forget the treasure. You have Gnome" or sth:)

More than a new motto, GNOME needs a mascot. Nothing attracts "regular users" (esp. girls) more than a nice mascot. Ximian understood this very well with Rupert the monkey (and do I have to mention Tux or the cute KDE dragon?).

I suggest re-instating Rupert with the GNOME logo on its T-shirt and to start using him in all GNOME public communication. To top it off, we need a kind of applet that makes him walk about your screen, swing between windows, etc. No, this isn't a joke, I'm serious about this! This would enhance the "public image" of GNOME more than any motto could.

I'd like for it to say something like "Beautiful AND Usable" but usable doesn't sound very good. Sort of like a slap in the face to certain desktops that just try to look pretty, but are very difficult to use. I won't state any names.
