Vive La Desktop Difference!

GNOME
GNOME

Matthew Newton of PCWorld writes: So, KDE or Gnome? Not a stupid question--but in my mind, kind of a silly one. Car/computer analogies always hold up well, so let's try one here: If you, dear reader, wrote in asking whether I think you should drive a Mini Cooper or a Hummer, how should I respond? My best bet is to offer no opinion. I know nothing of your preferences or your needs. Either vehicle will get you where you want to go. The difference will be in the experience of getting there. It's the same deal with KDE and Gnome.

Gnome rocks !

Possibly nobody reads this anymore ( rather old thread ), but I wanted to express my gratitude here anyway. After using KDE on SuSE for years, I switched to Gnome on Ubuntu somewhere last year. The best applications come from the "Gnome camp" and the Gnome developers make wise design decisions ! You are really building a desktop for getting work done.

My brother recently replaced Gnome 2.4 on SuSE by Gnome 2.12 on Ubuntu. His machine is rather old and slow, but Gnome runs fine on it and it's pretty user friendly. My brother - who's not a computer freak like me - says the Linux desktop is getting there. We were both thrilled to see his camera was recognized when we connected it via USB and even more thrilled that a nice program popped up to import the photo's to a gallery. My compliments !
