Fedora Core 5 to Include Mono

Red Hat was the main opponent against the inclusion of Mono on their products or Gnome's core for the past few years. This situation was creating tention within the Gnome community. But this is all past now and Fedora Core 5 will include Mono, and some of its front row applications like Beagle, Tomboy and F-Spot will be too.

Indeed.

That's what scares me the most about this suicidal rush toward Mono...

In all seriousness, was it really so necessary to have a .net-like platform for GNOME? Was there a fear that companies like Novell and IBM would stop throwing funds if there wasn't a nice way of providing cross-platform non-Free binaries?

For a platform that started due to licensing concerns, and whose most fervent advocates *still* trot out the old 'at least we're not dependent on Troll Tech' at times, there seems to be a lot of catering toward companies who aren't Free Software-friendly...
