Linux.com takes a look at the Banshee music player created by Aaron Bockover and Novell. Banshee is a GTK+ and GNOME music player built using Mono and C# and is quickly gaining popularity. Check out the article for more information and details and then test out this great music player.

Monomania

Yea to that sentiment. Mono MIGHT make development easier but nearly everything done in it so far has a mature alternative that doesn't require extra system resources.

What Mono apps are bringing something to the table? Beagle, iFolders and maybe Tomboy. None of which do anything that couldn't be done without Mono.

What do I get if I want to use Beagle? The joy of installing and running Lucene, which means Java as well as Mono, no? Oooh goody two different sets of dependancies, two alternative virtualisations more system overhead.

All well and good for those devs running fast new desktops but the joy of Linux used to be less system requirements.

C might be more hard work but the end result tends to be faster, more lightweight apps.

Oh dear, am I ranting?
