Rhythmbox needs YOU!

Gnome Multimedia
Gnome Multimedia

Rhythmbox 0.9.3 gained support for all mass-storage audio players (auto-detected if HAL knows about them, or via .is_audio_player). What it doesn't have is support for playlists on all those players. Last night we committed support for reading playlists from PSPs, and we want to add support for the rest.

If you have an audio player which uses playlists (and isn't an iPod or PSP), you need to run to bugzilla and tell us about it. If you do, we can the next version of RB support many more players.

Information we need

Identification

First, we need to know how to identify your player, as the type it is. Have a look around in hal-device-manager, any see if you can find any unique information about it. With iPods, the "storage.model" property is set to "iPod"; similarly for PSPs.

Second, is there anything unique about the files on the player? iPods have their special database file. PSPs store their tracks under PSP/MUSIC/playlist_name/. Does your play do anything like that?

Loading Playlists

Once we've identified your player, we need to load the playlists from it. iPod playlists can be read using libgpod, your player may have a similar library. PSPs store them in specific directories. Some players have .m3u or .pls files. What does yours do?

With your help Rhythmbox can rock-on with more audio players. [picture of man pointing at reader] Rhythmbox needs YOU!

[update] Also, check to see if HAL identifies your device as an audio player; it should have the capability "portable_audio_player". If not, go file a bug against HAL too - with the necessary information to identify it, or even better a patch for the .fdi file

Rhythmbox Bugzilla

Where's the HAL bugzilla?

I have an audio player (cowon iaudio u3) that HAL doesn't recognize as an audio player. Sooo... where's the bugzilla for HAL?
