First release of DIVA

Mono
Mono

The first release of DIVA is available. DIVA is a mono based video editing tool.
This is the initial, ALPHA release of Diva. Please do bear in mind it contains bugs and is not meant for general usage (yet). In particular, this software has received very little testing with NTSC video. Although theoretically things should work fine, they might not and be prepared for that. File the bug reports!

Hi again,

Hi again,

well I have to admit, that it sometimes feels strange to use a microsoft technology on linux (although there are other technologies invented by microsoft and already used).

I guess there are many developers who prefer managed languages as Java, C# and co. Sure python, ruby are all pretty nice, but personally I don't like to build big applications with scripting languages. But this is only my personal opinion, so don't discuss about this :)

I ever wanted to write applications for the gnome desktop. I've written applications with C++ and Qt for kde a few month ago, but gtkmm or C with Gtk+ were not my favourites.

So because I am more the Java/C# developer mono is really great for me. And I also know people, who used windows a long time ago, but with mono they are ready to change now, because they can continue their development on linux, without big changes.

Sure it is a microsoft platform, and sure it feels sometimes strange. The answer what will happen in the future is something nobody can give you.

Currently I am working with VS2005 and C# on windows and I have to admit, that this is really great. So I would like to develop application in this way too on linux.

And another thing: You've written:

Banshee is another good example, when it was released everyone was going like "WOOOW HOW GREAT" because they had a nice website from the start and more icons on their interface.

Exactly, you shouldn't forget, that a lot of people like to have a good looking application. I don't like the RB layout so much and Banshee looks better for me. Same to F-Spot: I don't like gthumb. The handling is strange. F-Spot isn't my favourite too, but it is better to handle for me.

So: There are people not using the programs, because it is written with mono. But the Mono developers, the developers of banshee, f-spot, beagle who are mostly employed by novell seem to set the focus on handling and nice layout. This is a bit different to the other programs I know.

Greetings

Mike
