FreeBSD and GNOME

FreeBSD
FreeBSD

news.com has a story about FreeBSD and their effort to improve their position as a desktop operating system by improving their interoperability and support for GNOME. The effort is lead by Joe Clarke who have done a wonderful job for a long time now making sure GNOME and related technologies worked nicely under FreeBSD. They are now upping the ante with working on HAL support and more for FreeBSD. Maybe its time to take a look at installing FreeBSD again?

Gnome users should thank these guys

I've gotten a number of highly detailed bug reports with clear steps to reproduce from Joe, and many have even had patches to fix the problem. Their work benefits even those of us who don't use FreeBSD.

As a freebsd gnome user myself, I have a lot of respect for all the hard work the freebsd gnome team puts into it.

I wouldn't call it dumb.

I wouldn't call it dumb.

Its like saying that people should stop working on certain linux flavors just because there exists others already. Well thats the point, if someone feels that FreeBSD is better for him that a linux distribution, why shouldn't he be able to enjoy it?

Afterall, I think that if FreeBSD brings better desktop integration, it will only do good to the whole open source scene, 'cause more users will be using those apps, thus more bugs being reported, fixed pushed up-stream etc etc.

sure, but... by Anonymous George (not verified)
