Alexander Larsson recently committed his work on the permissions page in Nautilus. He writes: I just commited a rework of the permissions page in the file property dialog. It has a simplified UI (and an advanced/unixy version availible via a gconf setting) and support for recursive permission changes.

GUI ACL Editor eiciel

Hi there,
for all those fellows who are discussing about GUI ACL editing just give eiciel a try (and before a nautilus restart of course ;-)) This gives you an ACL editor and an xattr aeditor in context menu of files and dirs/folders of nautilus. You can even start this cool thing as standalone!
