First release of Gimmie available

Gnome 2.x
Gnome 2.x

Alex Graveley has announced the first release of Gimmee.
The network access is too poor and the distractions too much fun here at GUADEC to write a proper release note just yet, but I wanted to let everyone know that the first Gimmie tarball is up.

I don't know. It seems like

I don't know. It seems like it would work fine if you didn't have the menus at the top, or you could drag it to the side. They have some todo items to fix aesthetic issues, so I'm sure they will figure something out that isn't too intrusive.

Oh, and if you'd actually looked at the GUADEC slides or even the demos on the website, you would know that this isn't "just a regular panel." It includes a reorganization of the way you access applications, documents, etc...and it is tightly integrated with "recently used..." functions that are still fairly new to Gnome and not well utilized.

I think it looks pretty cool and look forward to seeing it mature, and hopefully make it into the stock Gnome desktop when it is ready.
