Interview with Milosz Derezynski (BMPx)

Gnome Multimedia
Gnome Multimedia

BMPx is a GTK+ media player rewritten from the ground up on the foundation of BeepMediaPlayer. Originally started as a "behind doors" project, BMPx aims high and will get there very soon. Version 0.30.x was launched just days ago in a totally new form that drops the old Winamp-style look, bringing a more iTunes-like interface that will soon support SVG themes. Let's see what the lead developer of BMPx (Milosz Derezynski) has to say about his creation in this detailed question-and-answer session.

Bad Boys

Well I think you all sound a bit hard but there is much truth in it. I think most programmers do not care much about cooperation. And I think essentially projects like GNOME are about cooperation.

BTW: Personally I like Muine the most - simple interface. I think all this itunes clones are vroken by design

Or window managers. Or IRC clients. by Anonymous George (not verified)

Short answer

(I'm one of the listed developers)

1. It's relatively easy to write a player
2. Everybody has a different idea of how a player should be.

Replace 'player' with 'window managers' and 'IRC clients' as appropriate.

There is no wastage if the programmers in question never wanted to work on anything else or with everyone else.

I'd rather be spoiled for choice then be forced to use something I'm uncomfortable with.
