BMPx is a GTK+ media player rewritten from the ground up on the foundation of BeepMediaPlayer. Originally started as a "behind doors" project, BMPx aims high and will get there very soon. Version 0.30.x was launched just days ago in a totally new form that drops the old Winamp-style look, bringing a more iTunes-like interface that will soon support SVG themes. Let's see what the lead developer of BMPx (Milosz Derezynski) has to say about his creation in this detailed question-and-answer session.

Whats with all the

Whats with all the negativity? There is nothing wrong with making a good media player, and they are NOT just reinventing the wheel like many other projects. Even if they were, how does it hurt you? This OSS community needs less whiney bitches.

He / his team appear to be making a great audio player. And the gnome audio players available all lack something. Xmms / BMP both use the old winamp themeing, which IMHO suck, both in terms of usability and appearence. Rhythmbox is great, but the feel isn't quite right, at least to me...they make something simple too complex. Not to mention we don't need to clone apple's apps.

BMPx looks to be a great media player with a good set of features. Not overly simplistic, and not overly crowded with unused or unorganized features.
