A first look at Gaim 2.0

GNOME IM
GNOME IM

The Gaim 2.0 release is nearing its home stretch. The Gaim team released beta4 last week, with a number of new features and UI improvements. Gaim 2.0 is shaping up as a net improvement over Gaim 1.5, though some features have not changed for the better, and voice support for Google Talk is still missing in action. More here.

Looking at the screenshots, it seems that at least 2 of the Gaim pref windows won't fit on a generic SVGA Gnome screen (a resolution still used by 10% of the internet population according to OneStat.com).

re:webcam

I've got to agree with you...what's up with voice and video capabilities for Gaim? Sadly, gaim-vv died and it makes me wonder as to why. I could definitely save some hard drive space if gaim were to establish these two functions. aMSN and Gyach have solved such issues as webcam capabilities...even though Gyach's voice chat is a bit buggy, it works more often than not and I tend to use it from time to time.

More people would actually drop Microsoft Windows if they could get such functionality out of their Linux OS...
