Novell and LinuxFormat will write your dream application

Mono
Mono

To make sure nobody misses it, but Novell and Linux Format magazine is hosting a competition to have your dream application written for you. The competition is called Make it with Mono. To enter you just register on their site and submit a description of your dream application. The proposal with the most votes after the voting period is over (voting starts in April) will be attempted implemented with Mono. The FAQ do mention that you should try to submit something that can be created by a few good developers within a few weeks, so dont propose a linux version of AutoCAD or similar, you just get disapointed :)

Trojan Horse

So I suggest the app, you code the app, I include the app in my distro, and then Microsoft sues me for infringing their patents and IP. Nice.

Novell's role as an agent provocateur within the open source community is now clear for all to see. It's time to stop investing free software effort and mind share in Microsoft patent and IP encumbered technologies and devote that effort to free software. The time and effort wasted on Mono could have been spent on any number of other frameworks that are and will remain untainted by the legal machinations of Microsoft and their cronies.

It's time for the folks at GNOME to sever whatever ties they've developed with MONO and distance themselves from the legal firestorm that is bound to come. Every MONO dependency added to GNOME puts GNOME distros at risk.
