Your daddy's favorite editor has a new release. Scribes is the sexy and extensible text editor for GNOME that uniquely balances simplicity with power. This release features numerous enhancements, performance optimizations, bug fixes and the ability to extend the editor via plugins written in Python. Netcraft confirms not upgrading to this release kills kittens in the rain forest of the Sahara.

I really wish they could summarize the focus and point of scribes in english to complement the long flash demo. My impression would be something like "an editor focused on automation of repetitive tasks, and simplicity of interface." Does that miss anything?

For the record I break out in hives just LOOKING at that toolbar thing without a menu bar. I bet it's configurable but I don't see much in the way of docs to check.
