Like clockwork, the GNOME project released GNOME 2.18 six months after the release of GNOME 2.16. The new version carries a number of improvements over the 2.16 release, but doesn't bring many "must have" features that would compel users to upgrade right away.

Make it stable

I wish developers would stop releasing half baked apps. E.g. if gdesklets doesn't work 100% of the time don't release until they do.
Gnome is already a very good and functional desktop environment that compares favorably to other offerings in the market. Spend one or two releases just fixing bugs, and performance issues.

It is also time to drop Evolution and replace it with something that works cross platform and make Microsoft outlook look like yesterdays technology. Mail and calendaring is an important part of the infrastructure in many companies and not being able to use the same application on all boxes regardless of OS could be a show stopper for FOSS technology in many places.
