Wine-doors 0.1pre1 released

Bag of Software
Bag of Software

I think I've delayed it from the masses for too long now, so here's a pre-release for your consideration. The idea is to get one of these out a week until its stable and functional enough to get a release candidate out.

You can see screenshots of the latest release here
You can download a copy (tarball) here
You can post bug reports here

Highlights of this release include

  • Halflife2 in a very playable configuration
  • Internet Explorer 6 made EVEN easier, with IEs4Linux
  • Initial application pack for World of Warcraft
  • Pre-installed gecko and mozilla active x control
  • Dependency resolution (still a bit buggy)
  • Nice icons ;)

Any application submissions are welcome, you can follow our guide to creating application packs here

If you would like to package wine-doors for their distribution please get in contact with me (Karl Lattimer), a lot of this work has already been done for ubuntu/debian and fedora/redhat.

Wine-doors is an application designed to make installing windows software on Linux, Solaris or other Unix systems easier. Wine-doors is essentially a package management tool for windows software on Linux systems. Most Linux desktop users are familiar with package management style application delivery, so it made sense to apply this model to windows software.

re: name

Maybe, however I kinda like the name, it has a sort of, erm ring to it.

How about... by Anonymous George (not verified)

This is the reason...

We have GenericName= in the FDO .desktop file spec, ;)

Yep...

...that was my point exactly :).

Of course, I may have said what I meant to say for you to understand a little clearer so that I wouldn't cause so much confusion of your understanding of what you thought I meant! :)

Emulates windows very well by Anonymous George (not verified)

ooh nice

I was wondering what had happened to this application a few months ago. This is one app I'd really like to see in all the repos.

I've used crossover a couple of times, and the wine config app - but this looks so much nicer (I'm a gnome fan).

congrats

Hi,

Congratulation, your project looks very awesome. I just wish it's useless in the brave gnu world ;).

Étienne.
