Wine-doors 0.1pre1 released

Bag of Software
Bag of Software

I think I've delayed it from the masses for too long now, so here's a pre-release for your consideration. The idea is to get one of these out a week until its stable and functional enough to get a release candidate out.

You can see screenshots of the latest release here
You can download a copy (tarball) here
You can post bug reports here

Highlights of this release include

  • Halflife2 in a very playable configuration
  • Internet Explorer 6 made EVEN easier, with IEs4Linux
  • Initial application pack for World of Warcraft
  • Pre-installed gecko and mozilla active x control
  • Dependency resolution (still a bit buggy)
  • Nice icons ;)

Any application submissions are welcome, you can follow our guide to creating application packs here

If you would like to package wine-doors for their distribution please get in contact with me (Karl Lattimer), a lot of this work has already been done for ubuntu/debian and fedora/redhat.

Wine-doors is an application designed to make installing windows software on Linux, Solaris or other Unix systems easier. Wine-doors is essentially a package management tool for windows software on Linux systems. Most Linux desktop users are familiar with package management style application delivery, so it made sense to apply this model to windows software.

name

Hi. I would just like to post this comment somewhere. Regarding the name: it typical that the developers mind is set in the world of development rather than in the world of the user. "Wine Doors" is a rather misleading name unless you happen to know what the wine project is. A user would expect this to to be a program about wines. A name like "Windows Applications Installer" or something would be better.
