The other day I stumbled upon this neat tool that helps cleanup your GConf registry, called GConf Cleaner. While GNOME registry size isn't nowhere near the size of Windows registry, and thus shouldn't slow your computer too much, it's still nice to have a tool that cleans unused and obsolete entries.

No, the Windows registry

No, the Windows registry doesn't work well.

The truth is, it is fricking damn robust. The only people I have seen complaining are wining teenagers who don't know what they are talking about.

It's a single point of failure in case of corruption.

Duh! So is an operating system. That does not justify poor architecture. There are way better ways to create redundant systems, and they do not include inconsistent files with lots of code duplication and clutter.

The Windows registry is also convoluted and obscure.

True, but that has nothing to do with the architecture of the registry.

In the event of a corrupted gconf registry you can still access your system.
