The original AG said: with ctrl + shift at the **SAME TIME** (i.e. to select more than one "range" of files).

Say you want to select files beginning A to E and W to Z, you click the first A item then hold shift and click the last E item to select the range A - E. Then to select the next range you have to hold down ctrl (or the first range selection will be lost). So you press ctrl + shift and select the first W item and then last Z item.

This does not work (just as the original AG said).

You have to click each file individually because the ctrl key seems to have overridden the shift key range function. If you release the control key in an attempt to shift click the second range, then you just lose your first range selection.
