I had been using Linux

I had been using Linux (several distributions, always gnome desktop) exclusively for eight years before, and I'm pretty frustrated with OS X. It's much eye candy but for someone who wants more than email, browsing and iPod synching, Gnome is much more user friendly and more intuitive.

Well put. OS X may be good for the pick-up-the-mouse-between-keystrokes types, but for someone who's used to how a computer works it can be pretty frustrating. I also find Gnome is often better thought out in terms of UI design.

With compiz fusion, Gnome desktops can look better than OS X desktops (IMO. At least you can change the Gnome theme). I'm considering wiping my iBook clean and going with Gnome/Linux in place of OS X.
