GNOME 2 in Sid this Sunday

Debian
Debian

DebianPlanet Reports:
Christian Marillat and Colin Walters have completed all the steps required to transition GNOME 2 from experimental into sid, and will be doing so on Sunday: announcement here. Note the following bit: "Christian Marillat and I have written transition scripts, and they have been tested by us on some .gnome directories, but no one else I'm aware of has tested them yet. So if you haven't helped us out by testing them already, then you will be forced to anyways this Sunday :)".So, to all GNOME 1.4 sid users out there, you may want to spend some time this weekend to ensure your configurations are going to be safe come this Sunday.

Is there a good way to go back?

I've realized that I had too much faith in the gnome developers and that they've been drinking too much of havoc pennington's coolaid.

Not only are many good features gone, there is no equivalent.

So the question is, while gnome2 looks pretty, it doesn't work nearly as well (who wants to use the mouse to shift between desktops, sorry, "workspaces").

Any idiot knows that there should be keybindings to move up, down, left, and right.

So, does anyone know if one can go back? Or are we all victims of progress and to go forward again we'll need to shoot the usuability assholes?

Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a good document on what one needs to do in order to write a gnome-compliant window manager?
