A first look at Gaim 2.0

The Gaim 2.0 release is nearing its home stretch. The Gaim team released beta4 last week, with a number of new features and UI improvements. Gaim 2.0 is shaping up as a net improvement over Gaim 1.5, though some features have not changed for the better, and voice support for Google Talk is still missing in action. More here.

Gaim Beta 3 released

Great day in the park, we've released Gaim 2.0.0 beta 3. You know the drill--you can find assorted builds on our sourceforge page. We'd like to note that none of the beta 3 RPMs include a Gadu-Gadu protocol plugin. So if you need Gadu-Gadu then you should stick with beta 2. And as my pappy always used to say: don't hitch your wagon to a stump if it has eyes. We never did know what he was talking about.
Gaim Beta 2: The Sequel to Beta

We're basically refining crude oil into a usable product. Only instead of refining crude oil, we're making Gaim better. But it's really the same thing. Really.

Please grab beta 2 and let us know what you think. With any luck we won't need to make any major changes, and Gaim 2.0.0 final will be out before you can prove the theory of special relativity.

Latest Gaim Beta Arrives

After several months of delay, the first beta of the popular open-source IM client Gaim is now available.

This new beta, Gaim 2.0beta1, now includes support for several IM (instant messaging) protocols, such as the SIP/SIMPLE protocols, Apple Inc.'s Bonjour, the older Zephyr protocol, Novell Inc.'s GroupWise Novell protocol and several more obscure protocols such as the Polish Gadu-Gadu.

Gaim development

A lot of you have noticed that while we typically release every three weeks, we haven't had a release in a while. We've shifted all our efforts to finishing Gaim 2.0.0. Gaim 2.0.0 has a ton of great features, fixes every problem you've ever had with Gaim, makes drastic changes to huge parts of Gaim---especially status, includes three new protocols, and does a bunch of other amazing stuff. We're looking to feature freeze at the end of this month and release a month or so later, so be sure to get on our cases and make sure we get it finished...

Gaim 1.1.4

Gaim 1.1.4 is available.
Turns out 1.1.3 wasn't perfect. A lot of you using GLib 2.6 hit a crash on startup. Also, we missed a potential security bug identical to one fixed for 1.1.3. So, after one week, we bring you 1.1.4. Enjoy.
