This would be the first time that the conferences are to be co-hosted. The combined conference is expected to have around 800 attendees, being one of the biggest meetings of free software developers in the world.

The first Guademy event finished yesterday at the university of A Coruña, Spain. Organized by the GPUL (Grupo de Programadores y Usuarios de Linux), the Linux User Group of A Coruña, it was an event which brought together people from the GNOME and KDE camp (thus the combination of "GUADEC" and "Akademy" that forms the name of the event). KDE Dot News has a report of the event along with the group photo.

As we can read at Rodrigo Moya blog:
Next GUADEC-ES (Spanish GUADEC) will be held in Granada, the most beautiful city I've ever visited, with one of the wonders of the world, the palace of La Alhambra. And not only that, but going around Granada for tapas is one of the best (and cheapest) experience, since you just have to pay for the drinks, the food is for free (a tradition unfortunately lost in other cities of Spain).
And well, yes, there will be GNOME-related talks, if the free tapas didn't convince you. Are you missing this?
GUADEC-ES 2007, Granada.

LugRadio has been at GUADEC over the last several days. They write: This is the first of (hopefully) five mini episodes that we are recording while at Guadec. Its worth saying that we have had a few microphone issues, so please forgive the occasional crackle. Its also worth mentioning that we used Jokosher for the recording, this is the first time we have used it and its gone quite well all things considered. Enjoy and stay turned for the rest.
So far there are interviews with Robert Love, Joe Shaw, Luis Villa, Ted Haegar, Edward "PiTiVi" Hervey, Mirco Müller and Aaron "Banshee" Bockover.

The Official Schedule for this years GUADEC (GNOME User and Developer European Conference) in Vilanova (Catalonia - Spain) is complete. GUADEC 2006 will take place from the 24th to the 30th of June this year. The week will be split into three phases: The Approach Weekend, GUADEC Core and After Hours
In addition, the Core days will have three simultaneous tracks:
- Showcase: migration success stories, big deployments, distros shipping GNOME, demonstrations of great GNOME applications.
- Topaz: GNOME 3.0 is our next big challenge. Visions, plans, alpha developments, theory, research and any ambitious, but realistic, ideas for the future are welcome.
- Tangle: complex issues that could benefit from face to face sessions to work out solutions. Someone (an individual or a team) should summarize the issues, the background, differences of opinion, possible alternatives, etc. Participative sessions, like BOFs but much bigger.

The GUADEC 2006 registration has started. Make sure to check the discounts you may get as a group or as a GNOME Foundation member. We recommend you to book accommodation with us in the GNOME Village, you won't get better prices out there, probably not as much fun either.
And think this seriously: bring your partner, your friends, your family... (well, maybe not all at the same time). Vilanova 2006 is going to be interesting and fun also for them, with a top summer location in the coast and near Barcelona city.
By releasing the online registration feature we leave behind beta.guadec.org to become the official guadec.org website. We hope you like it!
REMINDER: today is the deadline to submit a presentation with a fair possibility of being scheduled in the GUADEC Core days.

As you probably know, March 31st (next Friday) is the deadline of the GUADEC 2006 Call for Participation. If you have a session in mind please submit it before then, even if it's only a draft or a collection of ideas. You will have more time to explain yourself once your session is submitted and scheduled.
This year we have two new GUADEC phases apart from the 3 GUADEC Core days. They are also at your disposal and you are invited to submit sessions for these phases as well. Think of GUADEC as a funnel, where the WarmUp weekend is the wide entry, GUADEC Core is the neck and the After Hours workshops are in the exit, where the results of the discussions are distilled in hands-on work.
